Become Part of our Historical Encampment.
Viking Fest Minnesota is seeking experienced Viking Age reenactors, living historians, demonstrators, craftspeople, fighters, and historically focused groups to help build a high-quality, immersive encampment.
Our goal is to present the Viking Age with seriousness, accuracy, and genuine public engagement—bringing the period to life through authentic kit, camp life, demonstrations, combat displays, storytelling, craft work, cooking, trade, music, and education. Whether you’re an individual reenactor, craft demonstrator, fighter, historical vendor, or part of an established group, we invite you to apply.
Why Participate?
BUILD A SERIOUS LIVING HISTORY ENCAMPMENT. We’re creating a space that goes beyond costumes and entertainment—where visitors encounter Viking Age life through accurate material culture, skilled demonstrations, and knowledgeable interpretation.
SHARE YOUR SKILLS. Demonstrators, fighters, craftspeople, cooks, merchants, and interpreters are central to the experience. We especially value hands-on engagement through craft work, combat education, foodways, music, trade, and daily life interpretation.
JOIN A GROWING COMMUNITY. Connect with reenactors from across the region and beyond, share knowledge, and help shape a festival that keeps growing.
LIVING HISTORY WEEK. Participants staying between festival weekends may access additional programming: catered feasts, combat workshops, academic presentations, sailing on a Viking ship, and other specialized experiences, some led by invited experts.
PARTICIPANT SUPPORT. VFM does not compensate general participation. Limited travel support and per diem may be available for approved participants providing a defined contribution—leadership, demonstrations, camp cooking, combat coordination, workshops, major staged displays, or specialized craft work. Requests are reviewed based on budget, event needs, and the applicant’s role.
What We’re Looking for.
HISTORICALLY GROUNDED PRESENTATION. Applicants should follow the VFM Kit Guide and Camp Guide and take historical accuracy seriously.
DEMONSTRATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT. Strong applicants help guests understand Viking Age life through textile work, blacksmithing, woodworking, leatherwork, pottery, silversmithing, cooking, combat, trade, music, cultural or religious interpretation, games, navigation, storytelling, or other period skills.
INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS. Established groups should be ready to identify their members, camp setup, demonstrations, fighting participation, and any special contributions.
A COLLABORATIVE CULTURE. We want participants who are accurate, engaged, reliable, and committed to a cohesive camp. Every participant shapes the experience for guests and fellow reenactors alike.
Apply to Participate.
All reenactors, demonstrators, historical vendors, fighters, families, and groups must complete the application. Families, households, and groups will also complete the Family/Group Spreadsheet linked within it.
