Key Policies
Viking Fest Minnesota is a celebration of Viking heritage, myth, craft, and community—not a place for hate.
We have a zero tolerance policy for hate groups, hate speech, or any symbolism tied to white supremacy, racism, fascism, or any discriminatory ideology.
Prohibited items (as tattoos, patches, on clothing or in any visible form) include, but are not limited to:
* The Othala Rune when on its own (particularly in its stylized form used by hate groups)
* SS bolts, swastika or any Nazi-era Germanic iconography
These symbols and messages are not welcome and will not be tolerated. Any guest displaying hate-based symbols or engaging in hate speech will be immediately removed from the grounds without refund and may be reported to authorities.
This is a family-friendly, inclusive event. Viking Fest Minnesota is open to people of all backgrounds, and we honor the deep historical, spiritual, and cultural richness of the Viking world without distortion or hate.
Viking Fest Minnesota bans firearms on the premises.
Viking Fest Minnesota is a family-friendly event, and guest safety is a top priority. The following weapons policy applies to all attendees, including those in costume:
* Axes, swords, and daggers may be worn as part of a costume, but they must be sheathed completely with no part of the blade exposed and must be peace-tied using a plastic zip tie that is clearly visible. These items may not be drawn at any time while on festival grounds.
* Only sheathed and peace-tied axes, swords, and daggers are permitted. All other weapons or costume accessories that resemble or could be mistaken for a real weapon are prohibited.
* Zip ties will be available at each entrance gate.
* Firearms, replica firearms, or anything that resembles a firearm are strictly prohibited. No exceptions.
* No costumes or accessories may contain sharp points, exposed blades, or any materials that may accidentally strike another guest.
* All other weapons must clearly appear to be non-functional and incapable of causing harm, including cosplay or replica weapons.
* Bows are not permitted, except when being transported by registered competitors, unstrung, to and from festival events. Arrows used for costume purposes must have the tips removed, be bundled together, and peace-tied.
* Foam, wood, and plastic toy weapons are allowed without a sheath or peace tie, but must not be wielded in a way that could strike another guest or staff member.
Festival security reserves the right to inspect all weapons at the gate or on the grounds. Guests not in compliance may be asked to return items to their vehicles or leave the festival unless the costume can be modified to meet the above standards.
No outside food or drink is permitted, except:
* Baby food and formula
* Medically necessary items (please inform gate staff)
We encourage you to explore our wide array of authentic Viking food, drink, and specialty brews available throughout the festival grounds!
Pets are not allowed on the festival grounds. Service animals trained to assist individuals with disabilities are welcome, in accordance with ADA guidelines. Emotional support animals, comfort animals, or therapy animals do not qualify as service animals under ADA definitions.
Costumes are encouraged! Whether you wear historical Viking garb, fantasy gear, or modern clothes, you’re welcome here.
However:
* Clothing must be family-appropriate—no nudity, offensive slogans, or excessively revealing outfits.
* Hate symbols or offensive content on clothing/accessories are prohibited (see above).
* Shoes are required at all times.
Personal Use: Guests are welcome to capture photos and videos for personal enjoyment. However, the use of tripods, monopods, drones, or professional photography equipment is prohibited without prior written consent from festival management.
Commercial Use: Any photography, videography, or audio recordings intended for commercial purposes, including but not limited to media coverage, documentaries, or promotional materials, require advance approval from Viking Fest Minnesota.
Respect for Others: Please be considerate and obtain consent before photographing or recording performers, vendors, or fellow attendees, especially in close-up shots.
All guests are expected to treat others with respect and courtesy. Harassment, aggressive behavior, or violations of any festival policy may result in removal from the event without refund.
